Carlyle Readies LatAm Real Estate Fund
The Carlyle Group is preparing to raise a pan-Latin America private equity fund focused on real estate. The Washington-based investment fund has brought on Eduardo Machado from Brazil’s Banco Fibra to hire a team. The Brazilian will be based in São Paulo while Jaime Lara, formerly of MetLife, will be responsible for the fund’s Mexican deals. The fund, expected to launch in the second half of 2007, could be anywhere from $400 million to $600 million, according to people away from the initiative.
