Bachelet Shuffles Again
Chile’s president, Michelle Bachelet, has shuffled her Cabinet for a second time since taking office last March. One of the victims of this latest reorganization is transport chief Sergio Espejo, the minister who oversaw the much-criticized implementation of Santiago’s new transport system, who is replaced by former labor minister René Cortázar Sanz. Marcelo Tokman, previously at the finance ministry, has been named head of the newly created energy ministry. Other appointments include those of Jose Goni Carrasco as defense minister, Jose Antonio Viera Gallo Quesney as new head of the presidency, Carlos Maldonado Curti at the justice ministry and Ana Lya Uriarte Rodriguez who takes over at the environment ministry.
