Brazilian beef producer JBS says it is acquiring Australian peer Rockdale Beef from Japan’s Itoham Foods and Mitsubishi through its unit Swift Australia. It does not disclose the amount it is paying for the asset. A banker close to the purchase says that this is a “fairly small deal, but it is very strategic,” and adds that Rockdale will be merged with Swift Australia. Rockdale slaughters about 200,000 cattle a year, while Swift Australia slaughters over 3m a year, according to company information. Rothschild advised JBS and PricewaterhouseCoopers helped Rockdale.
