Macquarie Acquires Wind Power Project
A consortium controlled by Macquarie has acquired 2 wind power project companies from parent Preneal for $89m. The consortium consists of the Macquarie Mexican Infrastructure Fund (MMIF), with a 45.0% stake, Macquarie Capital, with 22.5%, and Femsa, with a 45.0% stake. The acquired companies own a 396 MW wind power project in Oaxaca. Subsidiaries of Femsa and Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma, an operating subsidiary of Heineken, will purchase the output of the project under 20-year power purchase agreements, Macquarie says. A Macquarie spokeswoman says that this is MMIF’s second investment. In December, it acquired the Decarred Roads Project for about $125m equivalent from Rostec de Mexico. MMIF launched in December 2009 with over $420 million in initial commitments from Mexican pension funds, Mexico’s National Infrastructure Fund and Macquarie. Macquarie has more than $307bn in assets under management.
