Smith Leading Celumovil in Colombia

BellSouth has named Larry Smith president of Celumovil, Colombia’s second largest wireless provider in Bogotá, Barranquilla, and Cartagena. BellSouth recently purchased 50.35% of Celumovil and is partnered with Valores Bavaria, the Colombian business group. BellSouth now plans to purchase 100% of available shares of Cocelco, Colombia’s third largest provider based in Cali. Smith previously served as BellSouth President in Peru and Israel. BellSouth is likely to face considerable competition from the venture between Bell Canada and Telmex, which is planning to provide cellular service in Colombia.
