Does the Andean region as a cohesive economic and geopolitical bloc truly exist today? The region has it’s own development bank, the highly thought of CAF, and even has the prospect of its own free trade agreement with the US. Yet bubbling beneath, and often above, the surface are entrenched rivalries and huge disparities in terms of national wealth, political stability, and economic development. Is the Andean region anything more than a geographical grouping of countries? In the context of the Chavez government in Venezuela and the almost complete lack of stable government in Ecuador and particularly Bolivia, what are the prospects for region-wide unity? Economically, what are the implications of the FTAA agreement with the US and, perhaps more pressingly, what are the implications of Chavez’s opposition and his scarcely veiled threats to those countries considering ratifying the agreement?
LatinFinance presents the first Andean Investment Forum a
gathering of those public and private sector leaders, both international and regional, whose decisions shape the present and future of the Andean economy. The Andean Investment Forum will focus investment opportunities in the region, the evolution of the financial markets, challenges and solutions in capital-raising for the corporate sector, and economic integration and growth.
Topics to be examined include:
- The development of the local capital markets
- The role of the state and the capitalization of state-owned assets
- The evolution of the derivatives market
- Colombia‘s path to investment grade
- Growth, expansion and consolidation in the financial services sector
- Opportunities for foreign investment in oil and gas
With the active participation of both local and international experts, participants in the Forum will be able to hear, question, and discuss these issues with peers, partners and clients.
