The Chilean government is allowing Endesa, the country’s biggest power generator, to resume work on a 570-megawatt hydroelectric plant despite objections from environmentalists and Indian families. Empresa Nacional de Electricidad SA planned to restart construction in April on the dam in southern Chile.
The government approved the necessary permits for the project which will flood land around the Ralco project. Endesa has spent $120 million building access roads and other early-stage work on the dam.
