Argentina will issue between $1.5bn and $2bn in Swiss franc bonds this year in possibly two or three separate three issuances, Finance Minister Luis Caputo said.

The first issuance is slated for the first quarter, Caputo said, speaking with a group of foreign correspondents in Buenos Aires.

“The issuances will each be around $500n and $750m each,” he said.

The initial sale will mark the country’s return to the cross-border bond market after it sold $7bn in bonds last month, printing $3.25bn in 2022 notes at par to yield 5.625% and $3.75bn in 6.875% 2027 bonds.

In an interview with Argentina’s Clarin newspaper in late January, Caputo said Argentina could also explore transactions this year in Japanese yen and euros and did not rule out another dollar-denominated dollar sale.

Caputo has said the sovereign could issue some $3bn in non-dollar bonds in 2017.

Argentina is also planning a sale of $1bn in peso-denominated debt in the local market, he told reporters.
